On Doing The Harder Things
Hey Ami
I was feeling down today...so many things going on in my mind....
But one thing I can count as an accomplishment is that I finished my chores around the house before using my phone....except for when I had to check in this morning.
Maybe it's because the charger I used was slower....but I resolved to finish my chores before the phone was fully charged.
Like a race against charging time.
That aside, I listened to a podcast today...it's kinda like a weekly thing now.
So it was almost 2 hours long (1 hr 50 mins or so)....and it was about work and dopamine and oxytocin and serotonin....
Hormones and their relationship with human motivation and productivity.
I can't really narrate all I learned....it was a lot. But I can tell you one thing I took away from the whole podcast.
And that is: doing the harder things helps your brain to develop and eventually motivates you to do better in every area of your life.
It's like this example...let's say two people were on a journey...one person took the easy road, all straight, no bumps or curves.
And the other took the difficult road, full of bumps and curves and thorns, sometimes slowing him down.
Both of them get to their destination.....but who do you think will survive the hard times later on?
I'll leave that to you.
My point is, I want to try doing things I'm not comfortable with...like stepping out of my comfort zone.
Well, this challenge was one of the things.
I'm going to try a new one this week...I actually have two ideas but....
Let me ask you, can you do a day without your phone?
I haven't thought of that before....but I think I can. One of the words I heard in the podcast was 'phone fasting'.
It's an actual thing, Ami!
As funny as it sounds, most people don't know that it has tremendous benefits.
One is, it helps you to connect more with the outside world.
Another is......I can't really remember, I wasn't taking notes but I'm glad I listened to it.....helps me realize what I should more or less of.
By the way, I finished my weekly goals...crushed them! 💪
I'm gonna add new goals....ones that might be a bit harder.
All part of the learning process, Ami.
I hope you're crushing your goals as well.
Remember, every giant goal can be conquered one week at a time, one day at a time...I learned that this week.
See you next time.
And if you happened to stumble on this post and you're wondering who this Ami is, it's you. "Ami" means friend in French.
And you're my incredible friend.
(Mon ami incroyable 👌)
PS: The podcast I listened to was on Spotify. It's called 'Deep Dive with Ali Abdaal' and this particular episode was about "How Dopamine Shapes Your Habits and Productivity"....(didn't memorize it tho...had to pause to check out the episode title 😅)...you can check out the podcast as well and listen for yourself.
As for me, I'll definitely listen to it again.
And this time, with a pen and paper.
